I am the Periodicals Clerk at Pratt Institute Library in Brooklyn. I am
writing in hopes of collecting suggestions about what might be done with the
inserts that come with our art magazines. For example, Nest, the magazine
of interiors frequently comes with posters, related to the articles. These
are part of the magazine and I would like to begin to store, label, and
catalogue them in a useful way.
Secondly, how does one determine what inserts are important to keep? The
postcard is an ever increasing addition to the art periodical. Sometimes
these are advertisements in a traditional format, soem advertisements with
unusual designs (Since Pratt is a design school, I have qualms about
discarding these, but the more we keep the more labor intensive this
becomes.), finally, there are extentions of the actual content of the
magazine.
Lastly, how do we organize this information in a way that informs the user
of their existence since the magazine itself doesn't index it?
I trust that I will receive many helpful suggestions, so thank you in
advance.
