Dear Colleagues,
I trust that Mr. Goodman did what he thought best and I appreciate his
open communication. However, I am compelled to provide another
perspective on this matter.
Last Fall, we at the University of North Texas Libraries had the
tremendous privilege of hosting 12 visiting Nigerians (a mix of Islamic
and Christian), six of which were librarians. It was a thoroughly
enlightening and rewarding experience for all involved.
It may interest you that our distinguished Nigerian visitors used
Yahoo email accounts because their institutions do not have the
infrastructure for setting up mail servers. Those who worked in remote
regions didn't even have wiring for phones. We learned a great deal
about the Nigeria's new democratic government, just now developing in
its infancy and not much different from our American colonists of the
eighteenth century. They are striving to rebuild their country and join
the information age.
