Attack of the Giant Mold Spore!
The Michigan Museums Association and the Public Museum of Grand Rapids will host a workshop "Attack of the Giant Mold Spore: Simple, Safe Techniques to Recover from a Mold Outbreak" on Thursday, April 4th, 9:30 am - 3:30 pm at the Public Museum of Grand Rapids.
Designed for museum, library and historical society personnel and volunteers, and those responsible for collections at their facilities, the workshop focuses on what mold is, why typical treatments and cleaning efforts don't work, and how to avoid the problem. Several approaches to cleaning mold will also be covered including:
wSimple, safe techniques for mold removal, including the use of HEPA vacuums
wAvoiding the use of most chemicals
wOrganizing your cleaning efforts
wWorking with commercial firms, developing contracts and specifications.
Handouts on molds and treatment approaches, a reading list and a sampling dish will be provided. The presenter is a nationally recognized expert on the subject, Dr. Michael Trinkley, Executive Director, Chicora Foundation from Columbia, SC. The workshop is co-sponsored by SOLINET, Southeastern Library Network, the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, the Michigan Alliance for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage and the Midwest Registrars Committee. The registration for the workshop is $55 for MMA members; $65 for non members.
