I searched Lexis Nexis and found the complete list in The Independent
(London), August 24, 2001, SECTION: NEWS; Pg. 3. HEADLINE: 'MONA LISA' JUST
ONE OF THE WORLD'S GREATEST PAINTINGS THAT FAILS TO MAKE IT INTO TOP 100
The 'top 100' is from the Folio Society's lavish Book of the 100 Greatest
Paintings. I'm hesitant to post the 100 paintings to the list as I assume
that would violate copyright law.
Here's an excerpt from the article:
"The book was compiled by art historian Martin Bailey, a correspondent for
The Art Newspaper, who made the choices along with the 44 contributors -
museum curators and art historians from such institutions as the National
Gallery, the Tate, the Courtauld and the National Gallery of Art in
Washington."
