ARLIS/NY VISIT AND RECEPTION AT THE NEUE GALERIE, NEW YORK, MUSEUM FOR
GERMAN AND AUSTRIAN ART - FEBRUARY 7TH, THURSDAY, 6-8 P.M.
ARLIS/NY invites you to a very special evening graciously hosted by the
Neue Galerie New York. A new museum specializing in German and Austrian
fine and decorative arts, Neue Galerie, opened on November 16th, 2001.
Members will be able to visit the current exhibition, which closes on
February 18th, and attend a 7:00 reception in the Café Sabarsky.

Named after the Neue Galerie’s co-founder, Serge Sabarsky, the
museum’s Café is inspired by the great Viennese cafes that served as
important centers of intellectual and artistic life at the turn of the
century. It is furnished with period objects, including lighting fixtures
by Josef Hoffmann, furniture by Adolf Loos, and banquettes that are
upholstered with a 1912 Otto Wagner fabric.
The Bookstore/Design Shop closes at 7:00 p.m. and is open to the public
Wednesdays through Saturdays and Mondays, 11 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sundays,
1 to 6 p.m. If you wish to visit these you can enter on your own before
6:00 or visit after your tour of the galleries. We will be able to enter
the museum (which will be closed to the public) at 6:00 after you are
checked off our R.S.V.P. List.
Neue Galerie New York is devoted to early twentieth-century German and
Austrian art and design, displayed on two exhibition floors. The
second-floor galleries are dedicated to art from Vienna circa 1900,
exploring the relationship between the fine and decorative arts. The
third-floor galleries feature German art representing various movements of
the early twentieth century, including the Blaue Reiter, the Brucke, the
Bauhaus, the Neue Sachlichkeit, as well as the applied arts from the
Werkbund and the Bauhaus.
LOCATION: The Neue Galerie is located at 1048 Fifth Avenue at 86th Street.
DIRECTIONS: Subway: Take 4, 5, or 6 train to 86th Street (at Lexington
Avenue); B or C train to 86th Street (at Central Park West). Bus: M86 to
86th Street (at Fifth Avenue), M1, M2, M3, or M4 to 86th Street (at Madison
Avenue)
