Visual Resources Manager (Library Assistant V)
$3,000.00 - $5,100.00/Mo Final Filing Date 01-03-02
This position is located in: Art/Art History and is not represented by a
union. Working hours: Monday-Friday 8 am - 5 pm.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for the leadership and management of the Visual Resources
Library, which is an important research and teaching resource. As curator
and manager, oversee the collection and independently responsible for the
administration and development of the collection for the entire university.
Formulate policy and oversee all support and maintenance functions including
collection development, preservation, conservation, circulation, in-house
slide production, digitization, cataloguing, and budget and staffing in
support of the collection. Collaborate with system-wide curators,
librarians, and faculty in the testing development, and implementation of
shared resources. Write grant proposals in support of projects and on behalf
of the library.
Requirements:
In depth knowledge of Art History and/or Art Studio or in the fine arts or
closely related field is required. Training in Library Science or slide
library management experience, with progressive responsibility. Demonstrated
experience and thorough knowledge in administration, fiscal management, fund
raising ability, and supervision of staff and volunteers. Thorough knowledge
of slide library standards and operations including curation,
administration, and fiscal management. . Strong demonstrated leadership and
decision-making skills to facilitate strategic and long-range planning,
including the ability to formulate and implement a vision for the
collection. Demonstrated experience in organizing problem-solving sessions.
Strong interpersonal communications skills to clearly and effectively
interact with individuals with varying perspectives; ability to lead diverse
groups to consensus. Developed abilities in connoisseurship, principles of
design, heightened visual and perceptual awareness. Excellent written and
verbal skills. Experienced in physically handling and digitalizing slides
for collection. Demonstrated experience in committee organization, direction
and communication. Demonstrated supervisory skills to recruit, train,
evaluate, motivate, resolve problems/conflicts, take corrective action and
experience in performing evaluations. Initiative and ability to work
independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated skills to organize work
effectively, distribute effort appropriately among projects, meet deadlines
and maintain a high level of productivity. Conditions of Employment: Work
hours outside standard 8-5 PM schedule as required.
