Please pardon this posting to the entire ARLIS/NA membership. ARLIS-L was
the most efficient means to reach the Midstates Chapter members. This
message is intended for the Midstates Chapter members and concerns the
upcoming Midstates' election.
Best,
Sonja Staum-Kuniej
Chair, Arlis Midstates
+++++++++++++
Dear ARLIS Midstates members,
As Chair of the Midstates Chapter I am writing this plea for your
involvement/participation. Our Chapter had its Fall business meeting Friday
November 2. Due to unexpected circumstances and conflicting Fall calendars
there was very little lead time in the planning of the Fall business
meeting. As a result the meeting took place in Indianapolis and was
located at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indian and Western Art.
Catharine Jansen hosted and arranged the program which included lunch and a
very nice private tour of the Taos Collection and the upcoming Fellowship
Exhibition. Only three people from the Indianapolis area attended. This
lack of attendance has seriously impacted our ability to conduct Chapter
business, meetings, and our upcoming election. Our Chapter needs your
immediate feedback to be able to move forward. Our elections are in serious
jeopardy. Please read the details which follow.
The ARLIS Midstates Chapter is facing a severe lull in membership
participation and service to the organization. The nomination committee has
had a difficult time soliciting names for the ballot. The Midstates Chapter
Bylaws require at least two candidates per office on the ballot. Currently,
we do not have two candidates per office for the ballot. In addition, the
recent resignation of the current Chair-Elect position has left the Chapter
without a succeeding Chair to Sonja Staum-Kuniej's term. Sonja Staum-Kuniej
has offered to serve a consecutive year if it is desired/voted in by the
Midstates membership.
In order for the Midstates Chapter to conduct an election of officers one of
the following has to be done:
1. We need more names for candidates.
OR
2. We need to amend the bylaws to reflect a 'one-candidate' ballot.
I had hoped to be able to address this at the business meeting and move
forward as desired by the membership. We did not have a quorum to vote. I
am writing to you now in the hopes that you will respond and provide your
preference. As a Chapter we can not move forward on the election without
resolution to this ballot issue. The ballots have to be mailed by December
1, 2001.
