Upcoming conference in New York on "Catalogues Raisonnes and the
Authentication Process: Where the Ivory Tower Meets the
Marketplace." The 2-day conference is scheduled for December 14 - 15th
in Manhattan,
organized by IFAR, the International Foundation for Art Research. A
brochure about the conference and registration information can
be
obtained by calling IFAR at (212) 391-6234 or by visiting the IFAR Web
site at: www.ifar.org. The conference, which features
more than
20 speakers, will have sessions devoted to: the legal liability of
scholars giving opinions, publishing issues; ethics and conflicts of
interest;
procedures and process of writing a catalogue raisonne; responsibilities
to/ working with the public & field, etc. The edited
conference
proceedings will be published as a special double-issue of IFAR Journal
sometime next year.
In an effort to begin gathering data about catalogues raisonnes,
IFAR mailed a questionnaire this summer to a couple of hundred
current
& past authors/ sponsors of catalogues raisonnes. It is currently
collating the responses. If any ffdys who should have received a
questionnaire, didn't, they can send me an e-mail (or fax IFAR at (212)
291-8794 with their full name, mailing address and phone
number,
and I'll send it.
