The ARLIS/NA Nominating Committee for 2001 would like to announce the
approval of the slate of candidates that was presented to the
membership via ARLIS-L in September. This procedure was part of the
process announced by President Ted Goodman. If you did not see the
message about the procedure, you may visit the ARLIS-L archives at
http://lsv.uky.edu/archives/arlis-l.html and read the message from
September under "Nominations slate."

There being no petition candidacies, the slate of candidates from the
Nominating Committee is approved by the membership. For each incoming
officer, a full biographical and goals statement with photo will appear
in a future issue of Update. Following is a short biography and goals
statement for each officer:

Vice President/President Elect: Allen K. Townsend - currently Arcadia
Director of the Library and Archives, Philadelphia Museum of Art (1995-
); earlier Head of Education Resource Center, Dallas Museum of Art
(1991-2000); Circulation Manager, Hamon Arts Library, Southern
Methodist University (1987-1991) - MLS, University of North Texas,
1990; MM, Southern Methodist University, 1985; BM, Louisiana State
University, 1982 - ARLIS/NA member since 1991; activities include work
on national conferences in San Antonio (1997) and Philadelphia (1998),
regional conference (2001), Membership Committee, Mentoring Program
Coordinator, Travel Awards Committee, Delaware Valley Chapter, as well
as conference presentations - other professional activities including
Research Libraries Group, Philadelphia Area Consortium of Special
Collections Libraries, Music Library Association

Statement of goals: ARLIS/NA has been one of the most important
organizations with which I have been affiliated. Not only has it
provided me with wonderful opportunities for growth in my profession,
it has also been the source of many friendships and career alliances.
I feel very strongly about helping to insure the future of ARLIS/NA by
serving on its Board and lending my experience to the organization.
During my term, I look forward to helping to strengthen our already-
strong connections to VRA, CAA and IFLA’s Art Section. I also hope to
create more professional development opportunities for those new to our
professions by empowering and encouraging ARLIS/NA Chapters to continue
organizing regional meetings and workshops. I look forward to working
with the Membership and our Headquarters Staff to achieve the
objectives outlined in the newest version of the ARLIS/NA Strategic
Plan.

Treasurer: Phil Heagy - currently Director,
Library/Archives/Bookstore, Menil Collection, Houston (1990- ); earlier
positions at Rice University and University of Houston, etc.; MLS
Indiana University, 1979; MA (art history), University of Pennsylvania,
1978; BA Temple University, 1973 - ARLIS/NA member since 1976;
activities include Standards Committee, Texas/Mexico Chapter
exhibitions columnist - other professional activities including College
Art Association, Midwest Art History Society, Special Libraries
Association

Statement of goals: From all "accounts," current Treasurer Trudy
Jacoby has done an exemplary job maintaining the financial integrity of
ARLIS/NA and smoothing the transition to the Ottawa headquarters. I
can think of no better goal than to promise the same commitment that
has marked Trudy's tenure and those of past ARLIS/NA treasurers.

Canadian Representative: Irene Puchalski - currently Librarian, Shore
+ Moffat Library, Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design,
University of Toronto (2001- ) - earlier positions at Ontario College
of Art + Design, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Concordia
University - MA (art history) Concordia University, 1991; MLS McGill
University, 1983; BA McGill, 1981 - ARLIS/NA member since 1983;
activities include Membership Committee, Ontario and M/O/Q Chapter
offices

Statement of goals: During my career I have been a member of both
ARLIS M/O/Q and ARLIS Ontario chapters. I firmly believe ARLIS/NA is a
strong voice for art and architecture libraries in North America and
that within this organization the voice of Canada is a valuable one.
As Canadian Representative it is my goal to represent this rich diverse
voice that is the Canadian membership, and to keep the channels of
communication flowing between chapters and the Executive Board. It is
also my goal to convey to Canadian colleagues in art and architecture
collections and visual resources centres the relevance and the rewards
of being a part of ARLIS/NA.

West Regional Representative: Kay Teel - currently Catalog Librarian,
Stanford University (1998-) - earlier positions at Cleveland Museum of
Art, New York University, Columbia University - MLS Columbia
University, 1991; BA (history), Boston University, 1989 - ARLIS/NA
member since 1991; activities include Cataloging Advisory Committee;
Cataloging Section (moderator and column editor); New York Chapter
newsletter editor; also active in North American Serials Interest Group

Statement of goals: If elected West Regional Representative, I would
do my very best to represent efficiently and effectively this wonderful
and diverse region to the Executive Board. I would work with the Board
and the Chapters on the problem of declining memberships, and
recruiting new members throughout the West. It would be a privilege to
work with the Chapters on their concerns and present these to the
Board. In my ten years as a member of ARLIS, I have benefitted from
the cooperative spirit and determination of my fellow members at both
the national and chapter levels. It would be a pleasure to return some
of that generosity, in any way I can, by serving as West Regional
Representative. ARLIS/NA is a changing and strengthening society right
now, and this is an exciting time to be an art librarian and ARLIS
member.
