Dear ARLIS-L'ers,
I was just going through my new books shelves, and discovered something
that came in last spring or this summer--it is a book called 'The Victor
Weeps; Afghanistan" by Fazal Sheikh, published in 1998 for Scalo
Zurich-Berlin-New York. There is some text, some history, illustrated
with many photographs by the author...it is a startling view into that
decimated country. Heaven knows their government's shielding of the
Devil Incarnate is not excusable, but one looks at these photos, reads
of the struggles there for most of this century, and can't help but
wonder how much further back into 'the stone age' one could bomb them.
My vote would be to make Bin Laden come over and dig out all the rubble,
every last piece,by hand, in NYC and DC.
Anyway, if you have that book on your shelves, take a look, perhaps. And
make it available.
