A message to art, architecture, and decorative arts reference librarians:
The "Guide to Reference Books", a staple of reference departments commonly
known as "Sheehy", is being prepared for its 12th edition by
ALA. Paula Gabbard and Barbara Sykes-Austin of Avery Library at
Columbia University have accepted the assignments for the sections on
art, architecture and the decorative arts (Sections BF and BG) to revise and
update, and plan to make significant changes in the organization of
those sections.
If you are a reference librarian who has occasion to use this
resource, and would like to make suggestions on improving or revising
its current content or arrangement, please forward them to Paula
([log in to unmask]) or Barbara ([log in to unmask]). The current
schedule requires work on this project to begin immediately, with the
first draft completed in 2002, and publication in late 2003 or early 2004.
All contributors to the 12th edition have been instructed to maintain
the current length of their sections ("one in, one out"), so
suggestions on what practicing librarians consider the "essentials"
are welcome. You can visit the GRB12 website at
http://www.haverford.edu/library/grb/
for further information on the scope of the project. --Barbara Sykes
