Susan,
What a wonderful question. My interest in beads goes way beyond
librarianship (I'm a bead artist) so here are sites I use to acquire
more on beads and beading:
My favorite site for all kinds of bead information is this one:
http://www.thebeadsite.com/BB-HUB.htm Center for Bead Research , a great
comprehensive bead site which links to an incredible bookstore
for bead books and other publications http://www.thebeadsite.com/BKS-DEX.html
http://www.mindspring.com/~larinc/sbr/index/index.htm Society of Bead
Researchers newsletter, place to order back issues of BEADS and BEAD FORUM
Interweave Press's site on beading is very good for keeping track of new
books about beads http://www.interweave.com/bead/
For out-of-print books on beading, I recommend ALIBRIS www.alibris.com
and ADVANCED BOOK EXCHANGE www.abebooks.com
ABOUT.COM's bead section is pretty comprehensive, although there is a lot
of 'crafty' information there. They do post reviews of new
titles in beading, so it's useful for
that. http://beadwork.about.com/cs/beadbooks/index.htm
As for back issues of the BEAD JOURNAL, I can't offer any more help than to
say to check with back issue dealers and occasionally
check Ebay (you'd be surprised what amazing publications you can find
there). If it's only the reviews you're interested in, perhaps someone in
ARLIS who has this journal could arrange to copy reviews for you.
Hope this helps.
