Dear Miguel:
I cannot help but respond to your comment. Having used the Index of Christian Art and worked with it over quite a few years, I can attest to its potential.
I find it a formidable research tool, a unique resource for iconographers working in the Early Christian and Medieval periods ... but also invaluable for researchers from varied scholarly fields [literature, history, social sciences, medicine ...] who are tracing the sources & development of themes and subjects. The researcher can look for verbal and visual clues found in the ICA subject and photograph files, and then consult the lengthy bibliographic references to locate published research and other photographs.
Begun in 1917 by medievalist Charles Rufus Morey, the ICA exists in the original at Princeton as well as four "hard" copies located at Dumbarton Oaks, the Vatican Library, the Kunsthistorisch Instituut of the Rikjsuniversiteit, Utrecht, and soon available at the Getty Research Institute [formerly held at UCLA].
The electronic version, begun in the early 1990s, features the subject file prepared since then. Photographs are added both to the "hard" copies and the electronic site. To pursue a full research project, reviewing studies published since 1917, you can continue your search with one of the "hard" copies.
I probably have gone on too long and told you a lot of what you already know. But perhaps some information will prove helpful.
all good wishes,
Joyce

Just as frustrating is the Index of Christian Art--it doesn't
seem to do anything, except provide cross-referencing of works.
Anyone have any suggestions (other than to cancel the subscription).
