It is also my understanding that we are not even legally allowed to make any kin
appraisal of gifts. We respectfully tell gift-givers, that if they want an
appraisal, it must be made from their end. We also write thank you notes, and li
are included if they are requested, but whenever possible, I inform the donor, t
we can only accept gifts if we can decide what to do with them. We do plate with
donor's name. In the past, donors seemed to be allowed to give a gift of multipl
items, and stipulate what must be done with them, but I make sure they know tha
we have a copy, we will not add another, except in rare extenuating circumstance
and we must have the ability to donate again, or sell, as we see fit.
So, far no one has disputed this. I am only speaking of the Art Library here, no
the main library, though as far as I know, we have little or no written policy o
this subject...seems to me we were working on one at some point, but...
