ARTISTS BOOKS publications
Two publications which celebrate the art of the book
have been created to complement the Artists Books
exhibition held at the Brooklyn Museum of Art from
February 3 to May 7, 2000. The exhibition catalog,
entitled "Artists Books", has been designed by Stacy
Wakefield of Evil Twin publications based in
Williamsburgh. The checklist evokes a 1926 BMA catalog
that was the product of collaboration between the
artists Katherine Dreier and Constantin Alajalov
influenced by Marcel Duchamp and El Lissitzky. This
publication is available from the BMA Library for $15.
The other publication is a limited edition entitled B
created by students in Pratt Institute s Art of the
Book program under the direction of Werner Pfeiffer.
Published in an edition of 300 copies, B is a sampling
of ideas by nine artists at Pratt Institute depicting
the ethnic, cultural, historical and natural
diversities of Brooklyn. B is comprised of works
including Janet Antich s foldout on historical sites,
George Chang s circular subway guide, Matt Knutzen s
historical geography, George Larkins snapshots from a
bike, Kate Mole s earth samplings, Minami Moriya s
wear-art, Pete Riesett s ethnic food samplings, Andrea
Simkowski s statistics and Amy Upton s photographs of
Brooklyn. These works are contained in a plastic box
with color photocopy covers. This publication is
available from the BMA Library for $75. Please add
$10. for shipping.
Sales from B benefits the book arts programs at the
Brooklyn Museum of Art and Pratt Institute.
