Call for Submissions; FINAL NOTICE
2001 VRA Nancy DeLaurier Writing Awards
In 1996, the Visual Resources Association established the Nancy
DeLaurier Writing Awards, named in honor of one of the founding members
of our professional organization. The VRA Executive Board feels that
these awards, to be offered annually, are a fitting tribute to Ms.
DeLaurier, who has encouraged professional development for visual
resources curators for many years.
A committee to administer the awards based upon criteria for
application guidelines was formed from the VRA membership. The current
Nancy DeLaurier Writing Awards Committee members are: Jenni Rodda
(Chair), Jane Goldberg, Mark Pompelia, Eric Schwab, Adrienne Varady and
Sandra Walker. The recipients of the 2001 awards will be announced at
the 2002 VRA/ARLIS Annual Conference in St. Louis, where the recipients
will be recognized, if present. Two awards will be offered; submissions
will be judged in two categories, student and professional. Awards may
be made in one or both of the categories, at the discretion of the
Committee. Each award recipient will receive $200 and a one-year
complimentary VRA membership. Winning nominations may be published in
the VRA Bulletin.
The Committee is issuing a call for papers (ten to twenty pages in
length) for nomination or self-nomination for the award on a topic
significantly relevant to the field of visual resources. Appropriate
illustrations may be included. Submissions should be received by the
Chair of the Nancy DeLaurier Writing Awards Committee no later than
June
30, 2001. Electronic submissions will also be accepted. Submissions
should be sent to: Jenni Rodda, Curator, Visual Resources Collections,
Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, 1 East 78th Street, New
York, NY 10021; e-mail: [log in to unmask]; tel: 212-992-5872; fax:
212-992-5807. Papers might address the effects of new technologies on
visual resources; new methods of organization and accessing visual
information; historical overviews of early visual technology,
theoretical analysis of the Internet and websites and their impact on
visual resources; critiques of controversial issues affecting visual
resources institutions; or issues affecting the profession.
Visual Resources Association membership is not required for
participation. Previously published papers may be nominated. In the
student category, applicants must show proof of student status at the
time of submission by including a photocopy of a student ID (either
graduate or undergraduate) with the paper. Papers completed for a
degree
may be submitted. An entrant may submit more than one paper provided
they are on different topics. Papers may be co-authored, in which case
co-authors receiving the award will divide the cash award.
Recipients shall be notified by the Committee by August 15, 2001.
The Committee reserves the right not to confer awards if submissions do
not meet the criteria.
