Andrea and other Ditchburn readers:
Finally got my copy of ART DOC in the mail on Friday and went immediately to
the Ditchburn article because of all the fuss on ARLIS-L. I guess I could
take time to argue him point by point, but frankly, at my age, it seems to me
it would be a waste of time. He seems to have been traumatized by his
rejection by some libraries because of having no library experience (!!!)
After plowing through his pretentious prose, which shows NO knowledge of
librarianship, let alone art librarianship, I have come to the conclusion
that his job rejections may have had more to do with--is it possible?--his
PERSONALITY!! Sorry, guys, I didn't find his text "thoughtful," only
defensive and bitter. I think we are better off without this kind of
"attitude" in our profession.
I enjoyed very much the other "hot topics" in this issue of ART DOC.
