UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN -- FIELD LIBRARIAN IN ART & DESIGN
The University of Michigan is looking for a creative, energetic and
outgoing librarian interested in exploring innovative approaches to
supporting art faculty and students. The Field Librarian for Art will be
housed within the School of Art and Design and will be expected to provide
on-site consultation and implement new services in the field. The
University Library and the School of Art and Design will jointly appoint
this position. The Field Librarian for Art will also oversee the Special
Materials Collection in the Media Union Library and will jointly supervise
ongoing video production documenting the creative process for the arts.
The successful candidate will become the first Art Field Librarian and will
therefore greatly influence the future course of service to the School of
Art and Design.
DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Director of the Arts and Engineering
Libraries will perform public service duties in the School of Art and
Design and the Media Union Library, and will participate in University
Library activities. Responsibilities include:
* Collection development and reference in support of the studio arts,
graphic and industrial design, scientific illustration and new genres;
* Planning, implementing, and evaluating innovative new services &
projects;
* Providing library instruction, orientations and outreach.
* Working with librarians and faculty in a distributed environment to
improve access to collections and services for the University community.
* Joint supervision of 1 FTE Videographer.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED: An ALA-accredited Masteršs degree in Library or Information
Science, or an equivalent combination of education and professional library
experience; BFA/BA degree in art, art history, or related field; minimum 3
years experience in an academic library; experience as an art librarian;
online reference skills; collection development experience; demonstrated
commitment to public service; excellent oral and written communication
skills; ability to work effectively as part of a team of information
specialists working with culturally diverse faculty, students, and staff.
DESIRED: Advanced degree in a studio art, art history or related field;
demonstrated ability to plan and implement new services; supervisory
experience; experience with instructional technologies and digital media;
teaching experience.
RANK: Rank is anticipated at Associate or Senior Associate Librarian level
commensurate with the candidatešs experience and professional achievement.
