Wednesday, May 23, 6 pm, Grey Art Gallery, New York University
Featuring the exhibition "Dreams and Disillusion: Karel Teige and the
Czech Avant-Garde," at the GREY ART GALLERY, NYU, 100 Washington Square
East (between Waverly Place and Washington Place)
JAMES WECHSLER, cocurator of the exhibition, will conduct a tour
highlighting the historical and political forces--including Modernism,
the Bolshevik Revolution, the Nazi invasion, and the postwar Stalinist
regime--that shaped the Czech avant-garde. He will discuss Teige's
significance as an artist, book designer, photomontagist, actor, and
architectural, film, and gender theorist, while providing insights into
the making of the exhibition.
