Buried treasure: Artists' files in the digital age
Artists' files are perhaps the greatest un-tapped resource in art libraries
today. Especially for information on local and regional artists, these files
can be an invaluable resource for biographical information, exhibition
history, and images.
An ARLIS session in 1994 addressed this issue from a number of perspectives.
We think it's time to check-in on what librarians are doing today to broaden
access to these unique resources.
If you are working on a project to:
-- put an index to artists' files on the web
-- digitize artists' files
-- digitize slide collections of local/regional/faculty artists
-- add records for artists' files to your OPAC
-- publish printed works, other means,...
...then we want to hear from you!
We are particularly interested in any cooperative efforts (local, regional,
etc.) and someone with experience working with a university's cataloging
department to add records for artists' files to an OPAC. However, any
interesting projects or perspectives are welcome.
The proposed session would be an Ask ARLIS, so speakers need only talk for
10 minutes or so. Then there's time for lots of great Q&A and
information-sharing.
If you are interested in being a possible speaker, or simply have a project
we should know about, please contact Erika Dowell ([log in to unmask]) or
Terrie Wilson ([log in to unmask]).
Thanks! -- Erika & Terrie.
