Dear Colleagues:
Now that the 2000 ARLIS/NA and VRA conferences are behind us, it is time to
plan next year's joint conference which will take place at the Hyatt
Regency Hotel of Union Station in St. Louis from March 21 through March 26,
2001. We hope all ARLIS/NA and VRA members will join us as our
organizations together explore the digital frontier that dominates our
working lives. We anticipate that this occasion will encourage an exciting
spirit of cross fertilization of ideas amongst all of us. Our conference
website is: http://library.wustl.edu/~beth/Conference.html
We solicit proposals from the members of both organizations in the
following broad areas: 1) The Changing Research and Collections
Environments; 2) Redefining Roles and Responsibilities with the Digital
Age; 3) Digital Projects: Revelations, Project Management, Models, and
Future Initiatives; and 4) Issues and Challenges. We also encourage
proposals that address issues specific to our meeting site, St. Louis,
including those that focus on the art, architecture, and cultural heritage
of the city.
The presentation formats for this conference are as follows: 1) Plenary
Sessions (2 hours); Panel Sessions (2 hours); Seminar (aka VRA Roundtable
or AskARLIS, 90 minutes); 4) Poster Session (30 minutes); 5) All Day
Workshops (5 hours); 6) Half Day Workshops (2-3 hours); and Business
Meetings (60-90 minutes).
We remind you that conference proposal forms are due very soon on May 1,
2001. They may be submitted to either Program Co-Chair [see contact
information below]. As co-chairs we are available for consultation and
discussion to help you prepare your proposals. All groups that wish to
reserve a specific meeting time or place must submit a proposal form to
request a business meeting. We encourage similar groups from both
organizations to coordinate joint meetings when appropriate in order to
foster collaboration and the exchange of ideas and information.
We look forward to receiving great proposals from you and to working with
you to develop a wonderful and stimulating joint conference for 2002.
