Join us at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, for the joint spring meeting
of the Visual Resources Association Great Lakes Chapter and the Art
Libraries Society Ohio Valley Chapter. We will meet on May 11, 2001, for a
day's activities in Oxford, outlined on the agenda below. As it may be a
long drive for some, at the end of this message I have included other
activities in Cincinnati and Dayton that weekend, in case you would like to
take fuller advantage of your driving time.

By Car
From the Northeast: I-70 to U.S. Route 127 south to State Route 73 west,
turn south (left) onto U.S. 27
From the North: I-75 south to State Route 73 west, turn south (left) onto
U.S. 27
From the Northwest: I-70 east to U.S. 27 south at Richmond, IN
From the South: I-275 (Cincinnati) to U.S. 27 north

By Air
The closest airports are the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky airport or the
Dayton airport, both about an hour's drive from Oxford. However, there is
no regular transportation between either of these cities and Oxford. If you
choose to fly, you may want to rent a car for convenience, or you can check
the Oxford Web site listed above for agencies around Oxford that will
arrange shuttle service in advance. (Driving is recommended, if possible.)

All of those listed on the site, except those in Hamilton, Fairfield, or
Indiana, are no more than a 5-10 minute drive from the Art Department.

Cincinnati Events for May 11-12, 2001
Cincinnati Art Museum - "The Human Comedy: Daumier and His Contemporaries"
(drawn from the CAM's print collection) and "A Touch of Glass" (glass from
the CAM's permanent collection).
Taft Museum of Art - "Small Paintings from the Taft Collections" and
"American Paintings at Procter & Gamble: the Historic Cincinnati
Collection" (all Cincinnati painters).
Contemporary Arts Center (downtown) - Three separate exhibitions featuring
colorful latex balloons by New York artist Nancy Davidson, an homage to the
cast-off library card catalog by Los Angeles artist David Bunn, and a giant
indoor garden with crystal flowers, artificial arrangements, and live
vegetation by Swiss artists Gerda Steiner and Jorg Lenzlinger.
Playhouse in the Park - Performances of Lanford Wilson's 1980 Pulitzer
Prize-winning romantic play "Talley's Folly." Thursday-Sunday.
Aronoff Center (downtown) - "Peter Pan" (a ballet version performed by the
Cincinnati Ballet). Friday-Sunday.
Krohn Conservatory, Eden Park - Continuation of the 6th annual Butterfly
Gardens show, featuring live free-flying butterflies from Eurasia and
southern Africa.
Appalachian Festival, Coney Island Amusement Park (next to Riverbend Music
Center, southeast Cincinnati). Runs Thursday through Sunday with arts,
crafts, music, and foods.
Spring Craft Show, Cincinnati Zoo. March 5th-13th.
And for sports fans, the Reds will be playing the Astros at Cinergy Field,
7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Dayton Events for May 11-12, 2001
Dayton Art Institute, "The Triumph of French Painting", Masterpieces from

Allwood Audubon Center, "Art Quilt Exhibit", the theme is Flora, Mon-Sat. 9

Dayton Cultural Center, "Jazz Age in Paris, Viva La Paris", 216 N. Main
St., May 12, event, wine tasting and food from 12-4pm, featuring the foods
and entertainment of Paris, including Can Can Dancers. They do not have a

Town Hall, "Annie", Landmark Company Production of this rags to riches

DCDC (Dayton Contemporary Dance Company) and Rhythm and Shoes Benefit
concert, a collaborative concert. 8 pm, tickets; 937-228-3630
K-12 Gallery presents; "Rainbow's End Dance", dance to music of Mike's
Polka Holics Band from Columbus, 7:30 pm Dayton Lieberkranz-Turner.
