Director, Media Resources Collection

The Maryland Institute, College of Art seeks a service-oriented,
innovative visual resources professional for the position of Director of
the Media Resources Collection. The Director oversees a collection of
more than 200,000 slides, 1500 videotapes, 600 audiotapes, and a growing
DVD collection.
Responsibilities: Responsible for all aspects of current management
and future planning for the Media Resources Collection, including the
acquisition and integration of new information technologies and
services; the development and allocation of the operating budget,
establishing policies and procedures, and the recruitment, training and
supervision of MRC staff.
Duties include, but are not limited to: Works with representatives of
the College Community to evaluate and develop the visual collection;
oversees the production and/or acquisition of the visual collection;
oversees the cataloguing of visual materials according to accepted
library and visual resources standards and practices; administers the
departmental budget; and hires, trains and supervises staff and student
assistants. The Director is expected to participate in professional
activities at the regional and national level.
Qualifications: MLS with a degree in Art History, or an MA in art
history with additional training in media management. A degree in
Instructional Technology will be considered. Three years of experience
working in a visual resources collection. Knowledge of 1 or more modern
European languages recommended.
