OH PLEEEEEASE! Sign up for the Public Libraries tour!!! I'm staying an
extra day expressly for that tour. In fact it is one of the reasons I'm
coming to the conference! We public librarians have so many challenges.
The creativity inspired by cross pollination of ideas can be just what
we need to solve certain problems. Hey! Come on! - Heather

Subject: Restrictions lifted on ARLIS/NA 2001 Conference Tours
> There are a few tours that are fully booked but there are so many more
> that still have room. In fact, we have a number of tours that may end
> up getting canceled in the next week due to low enrollment
> numbers. We
> don't want that to happen so we have released all enrollment
> restrictions to the tours, non-registrants can now sign up. See below

> LA to participate in the downtown walking tours and bring your friends
> and relatives. Downtown has changed a great deal over the last decade

> non-Angelenos too.
>
> Here are some of the tours that are at risk for cancellation and the
> reasons I think you should all be signing up for them:
>
> LA Public Libraries - Now I recently sent out that nice long e-mail
> about this tour on the heels of quite a discussion on ARLIS-L
> about the
> Public Library Division. So, where are you guys? The sight-
> seeing on
> the bus as you travel from library to library is a tour all on its
> own.And you get lunch too.
>
> Autry Museum of Western Heritage - This museum is so much fun and I
> just can't believe you didn't take my original e-mail about it to
> heartand hurry to sign up for it. If I had to choose a tour to
> take kids on
> this would be it but that shouldn't discourage anyone from going. It
> isn't just about kid-stuff. And for you shoppers out there, I'd rank
> this in my top ten of museum gift shops.
>
> Pershing Square Landmarks - So I didn't exactly get around to
> issuing a
> sneak preview about this tour. Honestly, it's because Angel's Flight,
> originally scheduled to be on the tour, had a major problem last month
> and is closed for repairs. How's that for full disclosure? Don't let
> that stop you from taking this tour though. Pershing Square used
> to be
> one of those places that you'd scurry away from but not anymore. It's
> all spruced up and has a pretty spectacular water fountain too. The
> tour includes visits to the historic Bradbury Building (you may
> recognize it from the movie "Blade Runner") and LA's Grand Central
> Market.
>
> Union Station and San Juan Capistrano - The day I sent out the sneak
> preview about both of these places I came home to find the there were
> articles about both in my Westways magazine. The articles are
> available online at: http://www.aaa-calif.com/westways/index.asp
