Dear members,
Following up on the announcement from ARLIS/NA's Executive Director that
the new Handbook is on its way to you, I urge all members to make note of
the following.
Each Handbook is only as good as the contact information provided by you,
which goes to make up the member database. Please do make use of the
address change form included in the forthcoming Handbook should your
contact information change during the year. Equally important, complete
your membership renewal form legibly and with a minimum of institutional
abbreviations. These two sources are the basis for your personal member
record and determine how you'll appear in the next edition of the Handbook.
If you note errors in your personal entry, send corrections directly to
Headquarters (Vicky Roper <[log in to unmask]>)-- as you would to the post
office if you were moving. No, the Society doesn't pay Headquarters staff
to follow our engrossing discussions on ARLIS-L!
The discovery last fall that a complete re-build of the membership database
was unavoidable was, as you might imagine, a tremendous disappointment. Of
concern to you, however, is that the resultant lack of acceptable
electronic records has precluded production of some of the usual indices.
Rest assured that these will return in the next edition. The indices are
critical, however, and as a stopgap measure **for this edition only**
minimal indexing was carried out manually by Headquarters staff.
The 2000/2001 Handbook has been one of the more challenging projects during
this transition year for the Society and its new Headquarters management.
I would like to thank everyone involved, members and staff too numerous to
name, for dedication above and beyond the call of duty.
Karen McKenzie
President
ARLIS/NA
