The program that comes to mind was simply titled "Cathedral" and aired on PBS a few years ago. It combined animation with on-location sequences and was narrated by David Macaulay. I believe it is still available from PBS home video for about $20.

Does anyone know of a video which displays the construction of a
cathedral in a manner similar to a child's picture book?
