On Monday, April 3 at 8 P.M. the new Collection Development Discussion
Group will meet for the first time during the ARLIS/NA Annual Conference in
Los Angeles. Sponsored by the Collection Development Committee and modeled
on the ever-popular Cataloging Problems Discussion Group, the CDDG will
provide art librarians with an opportunity to exchange information and ask
questions related to the development of library collections and information
resources.
The bulk of the session will be devoted to a round robin
question-and-answer period. But we would like to begin with a brief,
informal moderated discussion of a collection development topic of
interest. We are open to your suggestions, and with this message I am
asking potential attendees to propose topics for this discussion. (The
original plan was to discuss approval plans, but a separate program is
being offered on that topic.) Please send me your suggestions directly
([log in to unmask]), rather than replying to the list. Proposing a
topic does not necessarily mean that you are volunteering to moderate or
even participate in the discussion, although of course you would be welcome
to do so.
There should also be an opportunity for brief announcements (say under 2
minutes apiece). If you wish to make an announcement, it would be helpful
if you could let me know in advance to aid in planning the session. Almost
anything related to collection development would be appropriate, including
announcements (again BRIEF) from vendors (announcements, NOT sales
pitches!). If time becomes a constraint, we may have to impose some
additional limits.
Thank you for your input.
