Featuring the exhibition:
Judy Chicago
Resolutions: A Stitch in Time
January 28 - April 29
Milken and Hurd Galleries
Judy Chicago's newest body of work, Resolutions: A Stitch in Time, a series
of painted and needlework images, will premiere on the West Coast at
the Skirball Cultural Center from January 28 - April 29, 2001.
Resolutions includes nineteen needlework pieces and one sculpture
created by Ms. Chicago and a national team of needlework artists;
preparatory drawings; a documentary video presentation; and
information on the needleworking techniques included in the project.
Unique to this exhibition is a group of traditional Judaic needlework
textiles from the Skirball's own collection with interpretive responses
by the artist and curators.
The eighteen needlework artists use a variety of complicated techniques,
including embroidery, appliqué, quilting, beading, macrame, smocking,
needlework, and petitpoint. These are combined with Judy Chicago's painting
to challenge the boundaries between art and craft.
