Dear arlis-l members,
I've been helping one of my faculty members research a couple of Los
Angeles furniture companies for a book on Paul T. Frankl. Unfortunately
the only guide to trade catalog collections I have in my library is the one
for the Winterthur microfiche set and the firms in question are not listed.
If you have access to a guide to one of the other trade catalog
collections (or if your library collects trade catalogs), could you check
for the availability of catalogs from the Johnson Furniture Company (also
known as Johnson-Hadley-Johnson) from the later 1940s and 1950s and from
Brown Saltman (from the later 1930s and early 1940s). Also, any
information on David Saltman (who developed the Brown Saltman line) besides
that in the Robert W. Finegan book (California furniture: the craft and the
artistry) would be of interest. (I've already refered my prof. to the
Western Furnishings Manufacturers Association).
Thanks so much for your assistance with this.
Best,
Janine Henri
