Dear colleagues
The University of Maryland recently adopted a policy of
discarding the print copies of general interest magazines
such as Time, Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report, Esquire
and Peoples after the microfilm arrives (usually after one
year). This policy came about as a result of space
problems, binding costs, and the poor condition of the
magazines after heavy use. I would like to hear from other
libraries who have a similar policy, and how it affects
arts and humanities students who need original images for
their research. Any ideas or solutions would be
appreciated!
