FRICK ART REFERENCE LIBRARY
FULL-TIME POSITION
( Temporary appointment, not to exceed three years)
Position: Assistant Cataloger
Duties: As one of a seven-member team of catalogers and support
staff reporting to the Head of Bibliographic Records, perform original and
complex copy cataloging and classification of library materials in Romance
languages and in a variety of formats in accordance with national standards
and local policies. Perform authority work and contribute authority records
to ArtNACO program. Participate in library retrospective conversion
program. Prepare abstracts for selected titles as part of the BHA
collaborative program. Accept special project responsibilities and perform
other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS. B.A. in art history or related
humanities field; additional graduate-level credits in art history
preferred. Two years of professional experience cataloging in a research
library. Familiarity with cataloging standards for art publications,
including thorough knowledge of MARC, AACR2, LCSH, and AAT; familiarity with
principles of abstracting and indexing. Demonstrated competency in use of
an integrated library system, an online bibliographic utility, and networked
catalogers' workstations; familiarity with Innovative system and RLIN
preferred. Reading knowledge of one or more Romance languages; Italian
preferred. Ability to function well in a changing technical environment.
Excellent communication skills.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00-5:00.

(1888-1984) to further the goals of "encouraging and developing the study of

The Library became a division of The Frick Collection in 1984.
