THE UNIVERSITY AND THE LIBRARY
The University Library, which is a highly valued partner in teaching and
research at the University, has more than 10 million volumes housed in the
Sterling Memorial Library and over 20 school and department libraries and two
low-use shelving facilities. It employs a dynamic and innovative staff of
nearly 600 FTE who have the opportunity to work with the highest caliber of
faculty and students, participate on committees and are involved in other
areas
of staff development. A full spectrum of library resources, from rare books
and
manuscripts to a rapidly expanding network of electronic resources,
constitutes
one of Yale's distinctive strengths. The Library is engaged in numerous
ambitious projects such as the renovation of the main library building, the
complete conversion of the Library's catalog, and various automation projects,
which include network access to scholarly information and digital
preservation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Yale University Library seeks a committed and energetic librarian to
support and serve the teaching and research needs of students and faculty
associated with the School of Art and the School of Architecture. In addition,
the incumbent will be expected to help develop and maintain the collections in
these professional fields. This position offers an opportunity to advance
services and to develop the print and digital collections in these subjects.
The successful candidate will also serve the broader information needs of the
Yale arts community through participation in general reference and instruction
programs. The position will report to the Assistant Arts Librarian and will
work closely with the Instructional Services Librarian.
Essential Duties of this Position (in order of importance)
1. Develops and maintains analog and digital collections for art and
architecture.
2. Participates in the general library reference and instruction programs in
art and architecture.
3. Provides general reference service to patrons in person, through email, and
over the telephone.
4. Serves on library committees, working groups, and task forces, and is
expected to be Professionally active.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
1. MLS from an ALA-accredited library school or equivalent.
2. Appointment at the Librarian I level requires no professional experience.
3. Knowledge of one or more Western European languages.
4. Demonstrated interest in information technologies and a high degree of
computer literacy.
5. Demonstrated commitment to public service.
6. Excellent teaching skills.
7. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
8. Ability to work successfully in a highly collaborative environment.
Preferred:
9. Advanced degree in fine arts or architecture is preferred.
10. Collection development and general reference experience is preferred.
11. Experience with html editors and web design.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Competitive salary, based upon the successful candidate's qualifications and
experience. Full benefits package including 22 vacation days; 17 holiday,
