TITLE: Art Librarian
New Brunswick Libraries
RESPONSIBILITIES: Reports to the Director of the New Brunswick
Libraries, provides reference services, bibliographic instruction, for
both students and faculty, and other duties as needed, such as
collection development and the creation and maintenance of web-based
research guides and tools. Evening and weekend hours are included.
Participates in library faculty, university wide and professional
committees and activities. Research, relevant publication, and
involvement in professional associations are expected.
QUALIFICATIONS: An ALA accredited MLS degree, and an advanced degree in
art history; knowledge of a foreign language, preferably French, German
and/or Italian, commitment to user services, as well as a minimum of one
year professional library experience for a Librarian IV appointment, and
three years for a Librarian III appointment required. Candidates should
possess excellent communication skills and an ability to work with
others and to prosper in a team environment. Knowledge of and
experience with electronic resources in the field of art history and
experience in teaching are highly desirable.
SALARY: This is a tenure track position that will be offered at the
level of Librarian III or IV depending upon qualifications. (Minimum
salary for Librarian III is $42,369 and Librarian IV is $35,302
dependent upon experience and qualifications.)
STATUS/BENEFITS: Faculty status, calendar year appointment, retirement
plans, life/health insurance, prescription drug, dental and eyeglass
plans, tuition remission, one month vacation.
LIBRARY PROFILE: Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, a member
of AAU, has three major campuses located in Camden, Newark, and New
Brunswick, each with a cluster of campus libraries. Under the
University Librarian's leadership, Rutgers University Libraries (RUL),
consisting of campus libraries and central services, form a unified
system. The New Brunswick Libraries, the largest campus library group,
consisting of four major libraries and ten branch libraries, provide
services and support for the university's research and instructional
activities in the humanities, social sciences, and science/technology.
The Art Library, a key resource and service provider for the Humanities,
is located on the College Avenue Campus in New Brunswick and maintains a
collection of approximately 70,000 titles. For further information,

is a member of ARL, CRL, RLG, Metro, NERL, PALINET, VALE and uses SIRSI,
